Mens Judo Gis

It's very important to spend time over the selection of a judo suit, traditionally known as the Judo gi. You may want to purchase a tight fitting gi, which will be difficult for your opponent to grip. Alternatively you could buy a loose fitting gi and enjoy more freedom of movement. If you're planning on taking part in competitions then you should look for judo suits that have been approved by the IJF.
 

Due to the rough nature of judo, you must choose the right uniform to withstand rigorous practice while also keeping you comfortable during practise sessions and competitions. That's why we've put together a quick guide on how to choose the right judo gi to suit your needs.

We thought we'd break it down and simplify the process for you. There are only two criteria to consider when choosing a judo gi: your height and skill level.

1. Your Size
To make matters even more straightforward, judo gis are unisex. There's just one style, and it's suited to everyone. The right size will also depend on your height.

For a child: sizes range from 100cm to 150cm.

For an adult: sizes range from 160cm to 200cm
2. Your Skill Level
Judo is grappling sport. As such, the uniform fabric needs to be thick enough to withstand grabbing by the opponent. The heavier the fabric, the sturdier the uniform.

Here are our recommendations for uniform weights:

For novice children who are training: a supple and lightweight fabric of 190g/sqm.

For children who are competing: a thick and durable weight of 350g/sqm.

For novice adults who are training: a supple and lightweight fabric of 440g/sqm.

For adults who are competing: a thick and durable weight of 700g/sqm or higher.
